Haruki Murakami The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle fb2. Haruki Murakami - The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle

The book “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle” by the famous Japanese writer Haruki Murakami surprisingly harmoniously combines a wide variety of topics. But the main theme of the work is the search for the meaning of life. The novel was awarded the Yomiuri Prize; it consists of three books combined under one cover.

The main character, Toru, decides to leave his position as a simple clerk in a law firm. He lives on the funds that his parents left, as well as on what his wife receives. She works for a magazine dedicated to healthy nutrition.

Unusual things happen in the life of the main character. First, their pet disappears. Tohru meets girls who have psychic abilities. Kumiko's wife asks them to find their missing pet. But after a short time, Kumiko herself disappears. She left a note saying that she had a lover because her relationship with her husband did not bring her satisfaction. Tohru doesn't know what to do, his life is falling apart.

Kumiko's brother is a well-known political figure. Toru himself does not consider Noboru worthy, he sees him as a liar, hungry for power, status and money. People believe his stories and hope that he will change the world for the better. But Toru sees that this man is the embodiment of evil. Noboru wants Tohru to give Kumiko a divorce, but the main character feels that something is wrong here.

In parallel with the description of events from Toru’s life, the novel reflects the Second World War in China, the period of occupation by Japanese troops and the armed conflict with the USSR. The novel contains mysticism, losses and difficulties of war, the search for the meaning of life, the experiences of the main character and many minor characters. The lives of people who hear the song of a wind-up bird. People don't see her, but they hear her singing. For some it becomes a symbol of awakening, for others it becomes a symbol of eternal sleep.

A chain of strange events begins. The family's favorite cat mysteriously disappears. Toru meets Malta and Krita Kano, who have the gift of foresight.

Psychics, at Kumiko's request, are involved in the search for the missing cat. But Tohru’s misadventures are not over - his wife leaves him. In the note, Kumiko admits to her husband that she has been cheating on him for three months.

Toru is sure that Kumiko's brother Noboru Wataya is involved in this. Noboru is a well-known political figure. He is secretive, cunning and shrewd. A skillful politician, he is fluent in the art of deception. They admire him, idolize him and fall into the web of his lies.

At a turning point, Tohru gains psychic abilities. Wanting to find out the truth about his wife’s infidelity, he confronts Noboru. In another world, their spirits clash in a duel. One of the spirits wins.

In the novel “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle,” the image of birds is symbolic. Often the main character hears the cry of an unknown bird. Because of the crackling singing, Kumiko believes that she flies to the house every morning to awaken the quiet world. They call her the "wind-up bird."

The Wind-Up Bird is present in the lives of other characters. In a dream, the boy sees men burying his father's heart. The voice of the Wind-Up Bird is heard. In war, a soldier kills a man with a bat. A kaleidoscope of pictures is replete with his eyes, and the cry of a mysterious bird “kri, kri” is in his ears.

Haruki Murakami raises an atypical topic for a Japanese writer in The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle - war. Memories of World War II intertwine with reality. Lieutenant Mamiya thinks back to wartime, when he was once carrying out an order on the Mongolian border. By the will of fate, he was thrown into a well. The rare rays of the sun gave him hope of salvation. There Mamiya understood the meaning of existence: to live under the warm sunlight, even if only for a few seconds.

About the book “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle” by Haruki Murakami

Japanese author Haruki Murakami is known for his original, insightful works that help readers see life differently. One of the writer's most powerful novels is The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. This is not just an interesting book, but also a unique psychological experiment. The plot is truly original, and if this novel had been written by another author, it might perhaps seem unreliable. However, while reading this work, you will find yourself believing every word.

The main character of the novel The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is a young man named Toru Okada. Finding himself in difficult circumstances, he tries to understand his life and find its hidden meaning. At the same time, the plot of the book is quite dynamic - something is constantly happening to Tohru. He loses his cat, and then his wife, constantly meets and communicates with new people, makes amazing discoveries. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is an incredibly action-packed novel. Moreover, some of them look completely irrational. But this only makes reading the work more interesting. It is written very talentedly and makes an impression on everyone who picks up the book.

No wonder Haruki Murakami is known for his extraordinary approach to literary creativity. Only his hero can look for the meaning of life at the bottom of an old dry well and, what’s most interesting, find it there! In the book you will meet many unique characters, each of whom will share stories from their lives. Learn more about the inner world and special abilities of people. Delve into China's military history. The novel is incredibly multifaceted and can give the reader incomparable pleasure.

The book “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle” was published in 1995, and the author worked on it for three years. The novel consists of three parts: “The Thieving Magpie”, “The Prophetic Bird”, and “The Bird Catcher”. It is very voluminous and meaningful. It is not for nothing that this work of Haruki Murakami was awarded the Yomiuri literary prize. The work is truly atypical and very bright. When I cook pasta, I always think of Murakami. When the phone rang, I was cooking spaghetti in the kitchen, whistling the overture from Rossini's The Thieving Magpie, which was being broadcast on the radio. Ideal music for spaghetti. The first time I read these lines was 10 years ago. I completely forgot the plot, but I remember the spaghetti. Happens. What is the magic in his books? He tells some completely crazy stories, n...

Understand each other? - I repeated, devouring spaghetti. Understand each other's feelings in ten minutes? What is it about? Maybe someone just decided to make a joke? His wife (Kumiko, about the same age, working in a prestigious editorial office) left her husband (Toru Okada, 30 years old, Japanese unemployed - temporarily). The wife left her husband. And before that, their cat disappeared (Noboru Wataya, the end of the tail is slightly bent upward, it’s impossible to confuse...

What does Murakami mean to me personally? Murakami is jazz, these are the sounds and smells of some other world, this is youth, this is mystery, this is eroticism. Murakami is 10 years ago. I had just graduated from college and every week I ran to my friend’s bookstore, picked up armfuls of books and read avidly - for the soul, and not according to the program. That's when Murakami appeared. I read and admired, and screamed about it...

Reviews of the book “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle”

mmm......I started reading his books from the Norwegian Forest - and I think I did the right thing...as one reader noted earlier - this was the most correct thing....after that book I just started reading all the books, his, they'll spoil it... but it's the chronicles that are "difficult"... no matter how they write it, reading this book quickly is not right... there are too many points that are worth paying attention to, so with a quick reading - you'll probably miss it.... I read it slowly, but (!) I'm sure I missed a lot.... There's no arguing about the fact that the book drags on!

and you yourself will notice that all his books are in this style, so this one is not much different in this regard.

about the fact that the book leaves an incomprehensible feeling after reading\ - this is true;))

and I’ll tell you this wave is sooooo addictive;)

heh......while reading the book I even specially played the music of the artist “Takahiro_Kido_2008_-_Fleursy_music”

atk called ego album....mmm....the music itself is mystical, so the effect exceeded all my expectations;)

Haruki-sama is frankly good. The completely everyday life of an ordinary person in his novels turns into hundreds of mystical and adventurous relationships, unraveling which, the reader will be surprised to discover that all this time he was looking into his own pupils.

Murakami's works are my favorite! They are filled with tenderness; very sensual, exciting and atmospheric. This book is no exception, but rather the opposite. It has everything: sadness and humor and a mystery that will not let go until the very end and much more that will not leave you indifferent while reading and will leave many more thoughts and feelings when the last page is read!

There are not enough adventures, said the functional sea battle players in the back rows. - All the talk, talk...

Wow—talk,” I said, getting off the stand. I remembered how they chopped down my dark-faced interlocutor, and I felt

not good. (C) Monday starts on Saturday

I think this book would make a good movie... especially if it were directed by David Lynch;) but in the book format, in my opinion, it’s a little drawn out. The atmosphere is one of the darkest and most depressing works by M., in my opinion, there are a lot of bloody details and hopelessness... whiskey, beer, classical music, a detailed description of the process of preparing and eating food, and other physiological procedures are present as usual;)

In the book, I liked the stories of Lieutenant Mamiya the most - I read it avidly, in general, everything related to the 2nd World War in this book, Murakami wrote and described at 5+, but everything else, how should I say it, in general, I’ve already read so much - Since I didn’t want to stop reading halfway through the book, I liked some of the conclusions, for example, it is very well said about death: “that no matter how death is an incentive for progress” (I am not quoting it verbatim)!!! In general, as for me, the book is not for everyone, but I was not one.
