“Object 704” was developed in 1945 using components and assemblies of the IS-2 and IS-3. The tank destroyer was a fully armored vehicle with a front-mounted conning tower.

The 152-mm howitzer ML-20SM, model 1944, was used as the main weapon. The gun's rate of fire was 1–2 rounds per minute.

The height of the tank is 2240 mm. The reduction in height compared to the serial ISU-152 was achieved by increasing the width of the conning tower. The armor plates of the hull and deckhouse were installed at large angles of inclination.

The combination of rational angles and impressive armor thickness provided the Object 704 with very high resistance to damage from enemy shells.
