from Russian families who traditionally vacation in the village of Divnomorskoye, Gelendzhik municipality.

Hello, Your Holiness.

Most of us are Orthodox Christians and parishioners of churches of the Russian Orthodox Church. We come to churches with our joys and sorrows and invariably receive love, support and consolation here.

However, life sometimes tests us and poses questions to us that are difficult to solve only on our own. This is precisely what prompted our families to turn to you personally, Your Holiness, and ask for your personal, caring participation in an issue that directly affects our safety and the safety of our children.

The history of the village of Divnomorskoye, where we have been vacationing for many decades, has always been and remains connected with the resort business, with the recreation and recovery of millions of our compatriots. Over more than a century and a half of its existence, the village has acquired well-deserved fame and reputation as a national resort with unique recreational, historical and cultural facilities.

The most famous of them are the world's largest Dzhankhotsky forest of relict Pitsunda pine and the Old Dzhankhotsky (Shcherbinovskaya) road passing through its territory, laid by Fyodor Andreevich Shcherbina, who came from a priest's family and an outstanding public figure of pre-revolutionary Russia - the founder of domestic statistical science, corresponding member of St. -Petersburg Imperial Academy of Sciences, founder of the Kuban Polytechnic Institute, deputy of the 2nd State Duma from the Kuban region, political and spiritual leader of the Kuban Cossacks, author of the fundamental works “History of the Kuban Cossack Army”, “Kuban Cossacks and their Atamans” and many others.

This road, which connected Divnomorskoye with the village of Dzhanhot and was built entirely with the money of Fyodor Andreevich, was originally conceived by him as publicly accessible and remained so for over one hundred and thirty years. Its dual purpose - both as a transport artery and as a unique excursion and tourist route - remained until the 70s of the last century, when the parallel Gelendzhik-Praskoveevka highway was built. Since then, the Shcherbinovskaya road has been used as a path, and its fame as a truly paradise for tourists and vacationers has only increased.

Thus, according to the Gelendzhik Bureau of Tourism and Excursions, from the mid-70s until the collapse of the USSR, at least 100 thousand official tourists passed through it annually, while the number of “unofficial” ones, according to local historians, exceeded a million. Similar data, in particular, is given in her book “Gelendzhik - with Love” by the famous local architect and historian Maya Makarovna Osicheva, who worked as a guide on this route for many years. For entire generations of our citizens, holidays in Greater Gelendzhik have long been firmly associated with the opportunity to visit the Old Dzhankhot (Shcherbinovskaya) road and once again admire its unique beauty.

Understanding its role as the most important recreational area of ​​the resort city, the authorities of Gelendzhik and the administration of the Golubaya Dal sanatorium built a stone staircase and alley back in the 60s, which allowed vacationers and the local population to freely access the Old Dzhankhot road directly from the embankment of the village of Divnomorskoye. And people, of course, took advantage of this opportunity: vacationers, especially families, happily alternated visiting beaches and noisy embankments with calm walks along shady serpentines filled with the air of a pine forest. As for the population of Divnomorskoye, for them the road was also the shortest route to the village cemetery, where relatives and friends are buried.

The events of the 90s, which led to the collapse of the previous system of mass tourism and recreation, also affected Divnomorskoe. But even in the most difficult times for the village, there were enough Russian families for whom its unique nature was still beyond competition. They put up with the problems they encountered at every step, but at the same time they returned again and again to their favorite bays, forests and hiking trails that had been well-trodden since childhood. It was thanks to them that the village survived in the 90s and developed in the 2000s; it was they who, annually leaving a significant part of their family budgets here, sincerely hoped for its cultural and competitive future.

Unfortunately, these hopes have not yet been realized. Moreover: everyone who loves Divnomorskoye is now experiencing the deepest shock, the main reason for which was the deprivation of vacationers of traditional access to historically established recreational facilities - and above all to the Dzhankhotsky forest of relict Pitsunda pine and the Old Dzhankhotsky (Shcherbinovskaya) road. Its key plot, directly adjacent to the village, was arbitrarily appropriated and blocked by the owner of a private mansion built on Golubodalskaya Street, 14.

The indigenous residents of Divnomorskoe are experiencing no less shock in this regard. After all, this section of the road served as their only convenient and safe exit to the forest and to the village cemetery (the bypass road, along the narrow and oversaturated Praskovey highway, is many times longer and is associated with a significant risk to life).

Both we and the residents of the village are non-conflict people. Knowing that the Law is on our side, we, nevertheless, were in no hurry to get involved in litigation and relied entirely on the conscience of this homeowner and his (albeit belated) understanding that it was impossible to base our own on the lawless violation of the interests of compatriots and putting their lives in danger well-being and comfort.

Our even greater hopes were connected with the speedy completion of the construction of the Spiritual and Cultural Center of the Russian Orthodox Church, adjacent to the mansion on Golubodalskaya, 14. We were convinced that the Church, being aware of the cultural and historical significance of the Old Dzhankhotskaya (Shcherbinovskaya) road and its extreme importance for the local population and vacationers, will act as a reliable guarantor of its traditional integrity and accessibility to the public.

However, lately we are increasingly faced with facts that fill our hearts with bewilderment and anxiety. So, this fall, in the vicinity of the Spiritual and Cultural Center, a three-meter concrete fence was erected, which, following the same concrete fence of the mansion on Golubodalskaya, 14 (and, in fact, being its continuation), tightly blocked the area of ​​​​Old Dzhankhotskaya (Shcherbinovskaya) on both sides ) roads up to the village cemetery.

We, Your Holiness, consider such blocking to be completely unacceptable. And there are a number of reasons for this: legal, economic, spiritual and moral.

1.
This section of the road is located within the administrative boundaries of the village of Divnomorskoye and since the century before last it has served its population as the only convenient and safe access to the forest and to the village cemetery, that is, according to the Law (clauses 9,10,12 of Article 85 of the Land Code of the Russian Federation), it is land of public use of the municipality and is not subject to any alienation or partitioning in principle. At the same time, passing along the upper border of coastal gorges, it actually represents that part of the sea coastline, which the Law (clauses 1,2,6,8 of Article 6 of the Water Code of the Russian Federation) considers exclusively as a territory for the common use of all citizens of the Russian Federation and intends for their free and safe stay and movement.

2.
Installing a fence in this place not only grossly violates the Law, but also forces the population of the village and vacationers to get to the forest and cemetery bypassing, covering a two-kilometer section of the busy Praskoveevsky highway on foot and every second risking being under the wheels of oncoming vehicles. Considering that next summer the entire flow of thousands of tourists and vacationers, traditionally flowing from Divnomorskoye towards Dzhankhotsky Bor, will move through the highway, the likelihood of accidents (especially with children!) here will increase many times over. It is also obvious that each such case will receive the widest publicity and public outcry, and a significant share of the moral responsibility for what happened will be assigned to the Church and its representatives. Since caring for children, their well-being and safety in the recent message of the President was declared to be the priority goals of the entire Russian society, you must agree, Your Holiness, that we have no right to allow this to happen.

3.
Without extensive and easily accessible recreational areas, a modern resort does not exist. This is a well-known truth. It has long been adopted by our neighbors and competitors: Türkiye, Bulgaria, Romania. They develop their resorts, carefully preserving old ones and developing new public forest and park areas. They fight for every tourist (including Russian ones), attracting them with the opportunity to fully communicate with the rich nature of the Black Sea coast. The Dzhankhotsky forest of relict Pitsunda pine and the village of Divnomorskoye are parts of a single resort organism that has evolved over centuries. To cut the artery that naturally connects them means, in essence, to destroy this single living organism, to deal a fatal blow to the resort and its well-deserved reputation. After all, people come here from all over the country not at all to look at someone’s fences and put their own lives at risk. They need clean sea, air and a uniquely beautiful pine forest - a true calling card of the entire Gelendzhik region. To deprive them of convenient and safe access to these natural benefits means to deprive them of the good rest they are accustomed to in Divnomorskoye. We are already observing the attitude towards what is happening on the part of our friends from St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Tyumen, and many other cities of Russia - and, believe me, it is extremely, extremely negative. Agree, Your Holiness, that people’s reaction to the appearance of the Spiritual and Cultural Center of the Russian Orthodox Church here should and can be completely different.

4.
You, Your Holiness, constantly urge Russians “not to be Ivans who do not remember kinship”, you talk about the importance for the people of their historical memory and the examples of moral behavior stored in it. The clearest example of such behavior, of course, is the life of Fyodor Andreevich Shcherbina, a true patriot of Russia and the Kuban land. Right now, in our days, his long-awaited return to his homeland is taking place: on the initiative and with the participation of the governor of the Krasnodar region, the active support of the Cossacks, the Church and the entire population of Kuban, the ashes of Fyodor Andreevich were delivered from Prague and reburied in the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Krasnodar, in mass editions His books are published, conferences dedicated to his scientific and spiritual heritage are held, a resolution was adopted by the Head of the Territory Administration to perpetuate his memory. In the coming years, the reconstruction and museumification of his estate in Dzhankhot will begin - the place where from 1910 to 1913 the main work of his life, the two-volume “History of the Kuban Cossack Army,” was created. It is obvious that the Old Dzhankhotskaya (Shcherbinovskaya) road, built by Fyodor Andreevich Shcherbina and faithfully serving people for over 130 years, will become the most important part of the future memorial complex. She is as much a monument to the great son and patriot of Russia as his books and journalism, a living symbol of the continuity of our spiritual traditions.

Believe me, Your Holiness: the fate of the Shcherbinovo road, its appearance and integrity will become evidence for many of our fellow citizens of how sincere the Church is in its calls and sermons. Agree that a blank fence blocking it is not the best remedy for historical unconsciousness. And not the most successful way to establish truly good and trusting relationships between the Church and society.

We, Your Holiness, are convinced that the current situation around the Shcherbinovo road is just a misunderstanding that needs to be corrected as soon as possible. The Church has all the possibilities for this. All that is required is good will and the strength of a moral example.

We are also very much looking forward to the fact that the Spiritual and Cultural Center of the Russian Orthodox Church, justifying its high mission, will come up with a noble initiative to preserve and restore the Shcherbinovskaya road in its historical form, as well as giving it the official status of a historical and cultural monument of regional significance. And then, perhaps, our children and grandchildren will call her not only “Shcherbinovskaya”, but also “patriarchal”.

Your Holiness, a meeting with the Pope, prepared in secret not only from the laity, but also from the clergy of all ranks, the so-called. The “Havana Declaration”, documents published by the Patriarchate for the “pan-Orthodox council”, imbued with the heresy of ecumenism, caused protests and a split in our church environment, which is intensifying.

Theologically educated masses of lay people, righteous clergy who took the path of confession, an entire diocese headed by a bishop, hierarchs of foreign churches, Mount Athos monasteries, Cossack communities, public organizations of the laity - the entire church intelligentsia stood up in defense of the Orthodox Church - the only custodian of the truth handed down to her from the apostles.

The scale of the protests eventually forced the Patriarchate to respond somehow. So what do we see? The Patriarchate did not choose the path of discussion and finding consensus, did not announce plans for a Local Council, or at least to start a round table, where all parties to the conflict would try to save the church from schism, but took the path of repression of dissenting clergy to intimidate the rest and ignore the protest of the laity.

What kind of epithets are arrogantly awarded to us? Hilarion, Legoida and the clergy keeping their nose to the wind are both “marginalists”, “screamers” or, as in the statement of the Patriarchate, “Pharisees” and woeful “zealots of Orthodoxy”.

(I will try below to explain the underlying reason for the arrogance of some of the clergy towards the laity,
characteristic of post-Soviet times.)

Who are these “outcasts”, “Pharisees”, woeful “zealots of Orthodoxy”?

Even when you were your odious mentor Metropolitan Nicodemus , the then still small stratum of the church intelligentsia, who grew up mainly on “samizdat” spiritual literature, strongly condemned his ecumenical experiences and excessive “warm” relations with Catholics, especially those of the Jesuit persuasion. After his death, to which I will return, Vatican Radio reported that he was also a secret Catholic cardinal. I don't know if this is true, but his style of communication with Catholics did not contradict this message. This position of the then church intelligentsia (the Patriarchate had not yet thought of calling them “Pharisees” and woe is “zealots of Orthodoxy”) contributed to the election of Patriarch Pimena, and not Nicodemus, who had more regalia. Over the past three decades, the growing number of church people has received a huge amount of first-class spiritual literature, including patristic literature (experienced elders, as is known, advised, in the absence of mentors, to turn to the holy fathers). It bore fruit.

A new church intelligentsia, incomparable to the previous one in numbers and organization, has formed, creating its own associations, mass media, distributing its own videos, etc., and most importantly, free in its assessments from the inert church bureaucracy, which prohibits everything and everyone. (If John Chrysostom lived in our time, he would have been immediately excommunicated from the church for his work “Six Words about the Priesthood.”) And this intelligentsia, together with the righteous priesthood, stood up to defend Orthodoxy from the heresy of ecumenism and union with “brothers in the Christian faith” (brothers are blood union - union).

What arguments do the protesters give? One and exhaustive is the teaching of the holy fathers of the church. Let me remind you of just one quote from the works St. Ignatius Brianchaninova, who devoted himself to the work of summarizing the patristic writings: « Papism is the name of the heresy that has devastated the West, from which various Protestant teachings have sprung, like from a tree of branches. Papism assigns the properties of Christ to the Pope and thereby rejects Christ. Some Western writers have almost explicitly pronounced this renunciation, saying that it is much less of a sin to renounce Christ than to renounce the Pope. The Pope is the idol of the papists, he is their deity. Because of this terrible error, the grace of God retreated from the papists, they were betrayed to themselves and to Satan - the inventor and father of all heresies, including papism. In this state of darkness, they distorted some dogmas and sacraments, and deprived the divine liturgy of the essential, throwing out from it the invocation of the Holy Spirit and the blessing of the offered bread and wine, in which they are transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ<…>No heresy so openly and brazenly expresses its exorbitant pride and cruel contempttowards people and hatred towards them».

In the Patriarchate’s response to the protests there is not a single serious argument, for example: “Mark of Ephesus (who is brazenly quoted by defenders of Orthodoxy) believed in the possibility of restoring lost unity (with Catholics) on the basis of the truth of the Orthodox faith.” But there is a direct statement M. Ephesus about Catholics: " We have alienated the Latins from ourselves for no other reason than that they are heretics. Therefore, it is completely unlawful to unite with them».

Since the time of St. I.Brianchaninova nothing has changed. The Patriarchate’s explanation that the documents for the council do not contain the heresy of ecumenism, but missionary ideas for converting Catholics and Protestants to Orthodoxy, is simply not serious. How many years have we been in the World Council of Churches, and the result is “0”.

In the 90s, my wife and I, among the spiritual children of the God-bearing elder, schema-nun, witnessed the power of her prayer and spiritual gifts - now books have been written about her. One day my mother said: “How I want you to Patriarch Alexey II lived longer, otherwise Kirill might come after him. He is a fan of the papacy and will bring a lot of trouble to our church. (During these same years, mother was often visited in the neighborhood by the now bishop O. Tikhon Shevkunov .)

And with your arrival, our church structure began to be energetically rebuilt according to the Catholic model. At bishops' councils, documents imbued with the heresy of ecumenism began to be adopted. We saw a massive retreat of the episcopate from the teachings of the holy fathers of the church, unanimously voting for everything that was sent down from above, including the ill-fated “Havana Declaration.” In your presence, the statements of the Holy Fathers about Catholics began to be hushed up in every possible way, and in 2011, Metropolitan Hilarion, this twilight perverter of the patristic heritage, even issued a “Fatwa” prohibiting publicly calling Catholics heretics! Knowing you well O. Vsevolod Chaplin asserts that you are increasingly taking away sole power - are you planning to establish a papal model of power among us?

And here is what a hundred-year-old elder, an archimandrite, who died at the beginning of the 21st century, told, to whom back in the seventies of the last century God revealed the future, and everything down to the smallest detail is coming true (a book about him was published by the late priest O. Alexander Krasnov with the blessing of the three Pochaev schema-monks, is one of the greatest spiritual works of the twentieth century, recognized by the people, is prohibited): « Thousands of Catholicized destroyers of Orthodoxy will be sent into the church itself, among the clergy. Despite their apparent piety, their spirit is different, alien, and the people will leave their churches. They will stand restored and built, but empty. Where nowhere will the light of true holiness and adherence to the spirit of the fatherly faith shine. But whoever wants it will find it<…>and the righteous clergy will be persecuted and oppressed».

And what do we see now? In March of this year. a certain person performed live on Radonezh O. Leonid from the church of St. Pope Clement, member of your delegation to Havana. So, he praised Catholics and blasphemed Orthodoxy so much that a parishioner he knew did not sleep all night (however, this “Catholicized destroyer of Orthodoxy” received a fitting rebuff from a listener who called, who explained to him that he was in “delusion”, and also called the high hierarch, who is located there). Repressions against the righteous clergy also began. In provincial seminaries, cadres of these Catholicized destroyers of Orthodoxy are already being forged by ecumenist teachers. Young monks are sent there for “processing” with the hope of shaking the stronghold of Orthodoxy - the monasteries.

Your Holiness, immediately stop the persecution, because the truth is not on your side, return them to their places of service, because they could not do otherwise. You take sin upon your soul, including for the suffering of their family members.

I will return to your mentor, Metropolitan Nikodim. I agree that the external church connections that developed under him to some extent moderated Khrushchev’s persecution of the church; I remember this, since I was already quite old. But the harm from his activities is immeasurably greater. It is now obvious that he planted a bomb, which exploded many years later, tearing the body of the Russian Orthodox Church at the hands of his student.

In this light, it becomes clearer why God sent your teacher a terrible death for an Orthodox without repentance
and a church farewell in the reception room of the planet’s main heretic, followed by a funeral service for the heretics. I’m perplexed, how are you personally not afraid of something like this for yourself?

You, of course, understand that the absolutely powerless priesthood, de facto illegally located outside the legal framework of the state, having no protection from the arbitrariness of the bishop, will vote for any ecumenical document sent down from the Patriarchate. The daredevil who raised his hand “against” (the vote is not secret) will immediately be thrown out of his church with one stroke of the bishop’s pen, and there will be nothing to feed his mother and children. There will be voices against it - confessors, but there are always fewer of them. But here, Your Holiness, there is one “but”. Voting under fear is inherently illegitimate - this is North Korea, and your repressions against the righteous clergy highlight this illegitimacy even more clearly.

Bishop Longinus (Heat) uncompromisingly opposed the Havana Declaration, and the entire diocese - abbots, priests, flock - warmly supported him, since they did not fear persecution. So, is the entire diocese completely “Pharisees” and woeful “zealots of Orthodoxy”? Something doesn't add up!

I, Your Holiness, am not a member of any organization, and am not under anyone’s influence - I am an ordinary lay believer and am guided only by my conscience. I am against the shameful Havana Union and against the “pan-Orthodox council”, which is of no use to anyone except the ecumenists. Please listen to us, for I know many who think the same way.

Is it not the donations of the laity that support the Patriarchate and the entire infrastructure of the church? Is it not our donations that support the episcopate and the priesthood? Some priests fatten their bodies, barely fitting into their chairs on live television, forgetting that these donations also contain the poor widow’s two mites. Meanwhile, the laity are completely removed from the management of parishes. If in Soviet times the elder and the twenty were completely in charge of the church fence, now the other extreme is the absolute power of the rector because of the strange custom of complete obedience to the rector that arose even before your patriarchate (this was also spoken out negatively by Professor Osipov). This custom makes neither the Parish Council nor the Parish Assembly completely unnecessary, or rather, reduces their work only to concocting and approving the countless bureaucratic waste paper required by the patriarchy in recent years.

Even the position of headman passed under you from the laity to the abbot. As a result, a feudal way of life reigns in the churches, the abbot has no one to point out his mistakes and wrong actions - he will kick him out, and there is no one to protect him - after all, he himself is the headman. On the part of external parishioners, the rector is treated with respect, and if he is a good priest, they are praised, and he begins to exalt himself, look down on the parishioners, and inwardly boast of the grace given to him by God as a gift (unlike the ascetic) to serve the spiritual needs of us, the parishioners.

As a result, the abbot sees his equals only in other priests, with whom close relationships are established, especially at throne meals, a community is formed, I am afraid that with all the signs of a caste, a community far from the laity, looking down on us.
This caste consciousness is especially evident on live broadcasts. O. Dmitry Smirnov . An erudite person who answers any question without hesitation does not see round tables and forums not of “woe zealots,” but of genuine zealots of Orthodoxy, which bring together hundreds of delegates from all over the country and from abroad, where the speakers are not inferior to him in erudition , but surpass it in objectivity and commitment to truth.

According to Father Dmitry, they should all be driven out of the church, and they should obey the Patriarch, the smartest of the bishops, and Metropolitan Hilarion, since he knows ten languages ​​-
That's all the arguments! And not a word of substance.

Everything would be so if we did not know the history of the church, which was often dragged into heresy and union by the first hierarchs, and the pious children of the church saved it. I will give two short examples from life to confirm the above:
no comments:

1. Five rectors of the deanery and two parishioners are traveling in a minibus to holy places. One priest complained about his elder (at that time they were still laymen) - he sometimes began to contradict him. The reaction of his comrades was friendly: “Drive him away, father<…>three necks,” but no one asked what the disagreement was about, did not think that the headman feeds his family with his salary.

2. A friend of his wife, mother, talked about her husband, who received a rural parish for the first time and left alone, spending several months arranging housing for his family. “I didn’t recognize him, he became so arrogant, even with me, it took a long time to bring him to his senses.”

My wife and I also observe, not without interest, how, over the course of twenty years, our abbot has moved from friends to something like insects under our feet. True, we are not offended, knowing where the legs come from, and we pray for him. This is the source of the arrogant attitude towards the protesting laity on the part of the patriarchy, this is why your henchmen give us offensive nicknames, and this is the area that requires reform.

Concluding my letter to you, I will say that I see no explanation for your policy other than deep secret admiration for the papacy.

Perhaps the president asked you to meet with the pope in order to somehow weaken the isolation of Russia, but even in this case you had to refuse him, as Alexy II refused Yeltsin in the recognition of Ekaterinburg remains.

Our church is separated from the state, and its priorities may not coincide with the state ones.

I ask you, Your Holiness, to listen to what has been said and take steps to establish dialogue
with opponents of your actions.

Think of the millions of believers you are called to lead to Christ.

The latest events that have occurred in the Russian Orthodox Church force me, Mr. Patriarch, as an Orthodox Christian, to raise my voice in defense of Orthodoxy. I do not address you using the full patriarchal title, since my Christian conscience does not allow me to do so. The title that your predecessors were proudly and rightfully called, and which you trampled underfoot at a meeting with the heretic and false prophet of the Antichrist, the Pope of Rome. Of course, our bishops should have been the first to denounce these acts, but, unfortunately, they all cowardly hid, pretending that nothing had happened. I'm afraid to assume that they also share your position. Monastics and priests remain silent, with only rare exceptions, but if everyone “falls silent, then the stones will cry out” ( OK. 19.40).

This meeting is not even a slap in the face, not even a spit in the face of every Orthodox person, we would have tolerated it without getting used to it, it is a blow to the very heart, to the soul of every believer in Russia. Just like a thief or murderer, strikes from behind, from the brace. You have lit a fire in the minds and hearts of people and are calmly watching what happens next, whether it will burn out and go out on its own, or will have to be extinguished. And on the ground, unfortunately, the executors create a kind of information vacuum when people look with hope at the shepherds, but they remain silent. But, according to the words of St. Gregory the Theologian: “God is betrayed by silence.” Why, Mr. Patriarch, do you hate your flock so much? Or do you, like the ancient scribes and Pharisees, believe that “... this people is ignorant of the law, cursed are they” ( In. 7.49). Yes, we are sinners, yes we are lazy, yes, we are careless, but we are God’s! And God, unlike you, does not leave his sheep to be torn to pieces by wolves, and not even wolves, but jackals! Although today the condition of our people leaves much to be desired, the majority of them are still reaching out to God, and you are depriving them of their last hope for salvation.

The lawless rule of Metropolitan Theophan in the Kazan Diocese forced me to turn to you.

During the time that Metropolitan Theophan headed the Kazan Diocese, many unpleasant events happened with his immediate “leadership”. Thus, Metropolitan Theophan indiscriminately, guided only by personal sympathies and antipathies, began to expel employees of churches, monasteries, and farmsteads, regardless of the fact that these people worked for the good of the Church. Many of the employees expelled by Metropolitan Theophan worked in these places for many years, often starting their work for the good of the Church from the very ruins of a particular temple or monastery. And many of them had no other place to go and where to lay their heads.

It is no longer a secret to anyone in our Diocese that the Orthodox Faith and rank have become a kind of “business” for the Metropolitan. Unofficial fees were collected from almost all parishes and monasteries, as they said, for the bishop's house. Now in the village. Petrovsky in Kazan stands a luxurious mansion that in no way fits with the image of the modest archpastor and unmercenary Metropolitan Theophan. This mansion was registered in the name of the wife of the Metropolitan’s secretary, Tatyana Samoilenko. But after the previous letter addressed to you, the above-mentioned mansion was re-registered to the Kazan Diocese. At least the Church benefited from this.

As for the services of Metropolitan Theophan, not one of them has yet passed without shouting, swearing and showdowns on the part of the metropolitan. Swearing and screaming can be heard from him even during the Divine Liturgy. One of the most blatant facts of such behavior by Metropolitan Theophan is the Easter service at the Raifa Mother of God Monastery in 2015. All the parishioners present at that service were extremely surprised and embarrassed by the swearing and abuse that was heard that night from the lips of the Metropolitan (due to the large number of parishioners on Easter, the service is accompanied by sound through microphones and speakers). It is easy to imagine what kind of “Easter mood” the bishop created among the worshipers, when through the singing of the choir, louder than the service itself, the metropolitan’s remarks were not at all Easter.

The Metropolitan’s manner of communication with clergy lower in rank is a raised tone, often turning into shouting and insults. Metropolitan Feofan's management style is constant threats, shouting, insults and blackmail, as well as endless intimidation of the abbots by removal from office. At the same time, he does not look at the merits, age, or social or financial situation of the expelled, who sometimes simply has nowhere to go except the place where he serves. Metropolitan Feofan is guided only by the desire to put his man in the place of the next expelled abbot. Metropolitan Feofan explains neither the reasons nor the reasons for such expulsions.

Metropolitan Feofan actually survived the rector of the Makaryevsky Monastery, Abbot Gleb (Vladimirov), who, unable to withstand the methods of “management” of Metropolitan Feofan, was forced to leave his post and the Diocese. This was hidden by the Metropolitan, since all this happened on the eve of the visit to Kazan of His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill.

Metropolitan Feofan tried to remove the rector of the Sedmiozerny Monastery, Archimandrite German (Kuzmin), from his post, until the public stood up for the latter, even planning to hold a picket in support of Archimandrite German. And the matter would probably have come to pickets if the authorities of the republic had not made it clear to Metropolitan Feofan of their negative attitude towards what was happening and the undesirability of such a turn of affairs.

You can also cite the example of Archimandrite Vsevolod (Zakharov), who, being in an endless state of stress from communicating with the Metropolitan, died suddenly at the age of 57 years. I would also like to note the suspicious haste with which Archimandrite Vsevolod was buried, at the direction of the Metropolitan, on the second day after his death. This is precisely what prevented everyone who wanted to come to the funeral from having time to come, and of those who did manage to come, no one was allowed to approach the coffin except government officials. The late Archimandrite Vsevolod, whose bright name Metropolitan Theophan now denigrates in a narrow circle, was a kind man, a worthy abbot of the monastery, and was respected not only by the clergy and parishioners, but also by those in power.

Today it is the turn of the rector of the Sviyazhsk Mother of God - Assumption Monastery, Abbot Silouan. Metropolitan Feofan has already announced his removal from office. And all this while the abbot is undergoing treatment in the hospital. The Metropolitan simply arrived at the Sviyazhsk Monastery, in the absence of the abbot, who was undergoing treatment at that moment, and announced to the brethren that the abbot had been removed from office.

Hegumen Silouan stood at the origins of the revival of the Sviyazhsk monastery, attracted a large number of parishioners, through his efforts many gained faith and found their way to the temple and God. The news of the removal of Abbot Silouan caused a very big resonance in Tatarstan. There was talk of pickets again. Many rectors of churches and monasteries simply do not want to remember Metropolitan Theophan at services as the ruling bishop.
